Well

A well is ‘Any excavation that is drilled, cored, bored, washed, fractured, driven, dug, jetted or otherwise constructed when the intended use is for the location, monitoring, de-watering, observation, diversion, artificial recharge or acquisition of groundwater or for conducting a pumping aquifer test.’

Ref The SuDS Manual (C753), published by CIRIA in 2015.
